Police in Utah have confirmed that 'Diff'rent Strokes' star Gary Coleman's death has been ruled an accident.
As reported by the Associated Press, Santaquin Police Chief Dennis Howard said an autospy had determined the actor died of natural causes following an accidental fall at this home. The finding matches the evidence police found at Coleman's Santaquin home on May 26, and the state medical examiner's conclusions bring the police investigation into the death to a close.
The 42-year-old Coleman died in hospital two days after the fall when he was taken off life support after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Since his death there has been a legal dispute between his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both of whom claimed control over his estate.
Coleman shot to international fame as a ten-year-old when he landed the part of Arnold Jackson on the sitcom 'Diff'rent Strokes.' But he was unable to replicate such early success as an adult actor, and his later life was plagued by ill-health and legal problems.
He moved to Utah in fall 2005,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and according to a tally in early 2010, police officers had been called to assist or intervene with Coleman more than 20 times. In one instance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Coleman called police for help after he claimed he had taken dozens of pain killers and "wanted to die."
Some of the disputes involved his ex-wife Shannon Price, whom he married in 2007. The couple divorced a year later but continued to live together and presented themselves as married in public. Price has petitioned the Utah courts to recognize her common law relationship with Coleman from the date of their divorce through his May 28 death. She is seeking the recognition as part of the legal battle over Coleman's estate, which includes his house in Santaquin, about 65 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Coleman, who was cremated weeks after his death, left multiple wills. His former girlfriend, Anna Gray, claimed a 2005 will awarded her the estate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Price countered that a note, handwritten by Coleman days after their 2007 marriage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], named her as his sole heir. Their case is ongoing.
